Will just learned to clap. Check back for a video soon. He also likes to bouncy in your lap when you say “bouncy, bouncy” and is starting to try and crawl when seated. He’s coming right along!
Weekend on Lummi Island
We spent last weekend (May 29-31) on Lummi Island, just off the coast of Bellingham, WA. This was my birthday gift from Anne and Brian, and it was truly a restful, peaceful and lovely vacation. We stayed in a great house right on the beach that was a restored fishing cabin built in the 1950s. The house was wonderful and the views incredible. We slept with the windows open and could hear the waves, and the sunrise (when Will woke up) was incredible with Mt. Baker in the background. There was a blue heron that visited everyday, a bald eagle, deer and lots of baby crabs and sea anemones when the tide went out. The time away from day to day activities was much needed and appreciated.
William update
Will is seven and half months old now and ready to go, go, go. He is a champion at sitting up on his own and loves to sit and play with his toys or Amelia. Recently, while sitting up, he’ll lean down as far in front of himself as he can reach and bang on the floor. I think it’s his way of saying “I want to go now!”
Other things Will is doing right now include:
- Making fists over and over while curling his toes when he gets excited and growling when he gets frustrated.
- Shivering and/or gagging every time we try to give him any baby food. He doesn’t seem to mind a couple bites of cut up pear or avocado and really likes bread and muffins. We’ll keep working on this.
- Squealing when he sees Amelia, especially if she’s suppose to be taking a nap and starts to come out her room. He’s quite handy to have around, for me, not Amelia.
- Still loving his johnny jump-up, although he’s trying to figure out how to get it to move forward instead of just up and down. Another indicator that he’s going to be off and running soon!
- Swinging at the park and just getting out of the house. He’s much more content in his stroller in the afternoon than at home.
Amelia update
Amelia is now three, and seems to be loving every minute of it. She is very much a daddy’s girl, and I am not complaining. She wants me to snuggle with her at night (although often in the MIDDLE of the night), and is very upset in the morning when I have to go to work. She says things like, “Didn’t you go to work yesterday? Why do you have to go again today?”, and runs to the door and locks it so that I can’t get out. She also likes to give me great big hugs. If you haven’t seen the video of us on an adventure to the zoo, you should check it out. Other things keeping Amelia busy include, but are not limited to:
- Being a princess: She wears her Princess Dress most of the time on most days. She often dances around singing about dreams coming true, and leaving one of her “glass slippers” in random places around the house.
- Being a big sister: Will finds Amelia very entertaining, and she will certainly indulge him. She kisses him, hugs him, gets him toys, and makes him laugh. They seem to have an especially good time in the car, where they will both sometimes laugh hysterically.
- Rhyming: Amelia is VERY into silly rhyming, and will say things like, “thank-you-da-bank-you”, and “that’s funny-da-bunny!” We have all started participating.
- Reading books: Amelia loves to read books, and will cajole her parents into reading her as many as possible.
- Playing with friends: She has several friends, and likes to go to the park with them where they will chat while riding in their strollers, share snacks, and play on the playground.
- Helping out in the kitchen: She likes to taste bread dough and lick the mixer paddle or spatulas.
- Keeping a tight grip on the center of attention: Yes, Will is around, but Amelia wants to be sure that she isn’t overlooked. She will say, “knock, knock”, or “ding-dong”, then, “Daddy, I want to tell you something important!”, or “I want to tell you just one more thing!” She will also plop down in front of me, blocking my view, if I happen to be playing with Will on the floor or holding him on the couch.
