Gramma and Pop Visit Seattle, and a great time is had by all

Gramma Anne and Pop-Pop come on Friday and we had a great long weekend.

Saturday we had french toast for breakfast in the backyard, went to the University District Farmer’s market, and then a long bike ride to Marymor Park where we ate bread, cheese, and cherries for lunch. We had a lovely dinner with the Knellekens (chicken fajitas) on Saturday night, along with a few bottles of wine.

Sunday we had breakfast with the McLaughlins, and spent most of the day at home enjoying the warm weather and company. We did venture out in the late afternoon for a walk to the beach. Once Amelia agreed to go to bed, we drank wine and had grilled meat and vegetables on a stick in the backyard… and more wine.

Monday we got going early and set out for the Glacier Peak region in the Cascades for a hike up to Lake Twenty-Two. It was a moderately strenuous 2.7 miles up to the lake, then about a mile around it. We had a picnic of sushi rolls, then hiked back down. Monday night Amelia played with Ken, Kristen, and Annalisa next door while the rest of us went to a nice dinner downtown at Lola.

Tuesday Lindsay went to work. We went for a walk around the neighborhood in the morning, then spent the early afternoon downtown at the Olympic Sculpture park. We had lunch then went to the airport.

Here is Gramma’s sweet synopsis we received via email:

Dave, Lindsay and Amelia

We made it. No complications whatsoever. Things look good – green, somewhat cool, vegetables ready to harvest and not too many weeds to pull. We have lots of green beans, cabbage, broccoli, potatoes, two tomatoes and one japanese eggplant. Life is good.

We had an absolutely fabulous time. It couldn’t have been better.

Pictures we took home:

Pop pop in the hammock with a motionless Amelia

Waking up to “manana” and “appol” every morning

The singing accompaniment to our walks and hike

Amelia’s identification of “wa-wa” just from the sound of the waterfall – she is SO smart

The difference between Amelia’s polite request for grapes and her growl for chocolate tart at Macrina

….and those are just a few of the Amelia memories. Our meals were all outstanding, of course, and the exercise was much appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. We will bask in the warmth we brought home from our time chatting, relaxing and enjoying your little family. We love you all lots and lots and lots. We’ll talk very soon, I’m sure! Love from mom and dad/ gramma and pop-pop/ Anne and Brian
